My message board is being over run with messages from the groups I am in. I was wondering if there could be a different section just for messages form groups.

Sorry for your inconvenience.
We’re considering that a user can receive notifications from the group only when (1) the admin sends out a message, (2) the user joins the private group after the admin approves, or (3) any group member comments on the group.
This has been added to our issue tracker with ticker number #130
