Enhancement for Lab Designs - searching - by specific NT#

Enhancement for Lab Designs sorting/searching - by specific NT#

When viewing submission for an RNA Lab it would be helpful to search for sequences by a specific number of an NT’s (Nucleotides) position.

The current link (‘View all submitted designs for this puzzle’ ) when viewing a current or past RNA Lab, has an option for ‘Sequence Search’. This is a useful function because it will match _ANY_ sequence, anywhere in submitted designs for that lab.

As an example, the lab “FMN Switch 2.0” when searched for the sequence ‘GGAAGU’, yields 5 designs (*1). (Note this is as of 19, November, 2012, with 5 rounds submitted; if there are more rounds in the future a player may get different results submitting this search).
Three of the designs start with that sequence, while the other 2 have the sequence later (at NT# 9, and NT# 5).

It would be useful to specify the starting NT# for the sequence of interest to filter out unwanted results. Perhaps a wildcard character could be used as a placeholder to match the NT’s elsewhere in the design. For example, using the character # as a wildcard:
GGAAGU#######… (out to the 80 NT’s in this lab shape) would yield 3 designs
####GGAAGU###… would yield the design with the sequence starting at NT# 5
########GGAAGU##… would yield the design with the sequence starting at NT# 9

Expanding this concept to a general search would allow multiple placeholders with more than one sequence. For example ###GGAAG###UAUA###… would filter only on matches in the 4 to 8 and 12 to 15 NT values.

I agree. we need more search options.
