Is there a way to change my username so my full name doesn’t display in chat?

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We have already heard complaints about this issue and it has been filed as bug 386 in the bug tracker. It is marked as “pending” which means that we WILL solve it, but not yet. We’re currently fixing bugs by theme, and are currently we’re working on “lab interface.” The next theme will be “user issues,” including this one. Please understand that we’re working as fast as we can, but have finite developer resources.

Our dev team is currently tiny. They just hired our (first?) full time developer, Jnicol. Hopefully, we’re going to get our new issue tracker running soon, as well as player development (if you are loooking to help in development, please PM either jeehyung or jnicol may be able to help). We should also have our devs who are students back and working more this summer.In other words, please be patient, as nothing much is happening at this point.

I used a username generator and chose this name. But upon meeting Astromon, Iroppy, and jaxman821, I saw they had really cool names, and I wanted to change mine.

While there is no built-in feature for players to change their usernames currently, if anyone wants to have their username changed, that’s something a developer can do for you. Feel free to let me know if you want me to do so!

As an update to the suggestion of being able to change your username on your own: We have (and continue to) manually do this on a case-by-case basis, however I’m not sure if this creates potential problems with attribution (eg in papers) - I think because we usually list a user ID, that it should be ok. @Omei and @rhiju do either of you have thoughts on this, or if there are any other potential issues?
I can’t think of any attribution problem over and above what happens when a person changes their ordinary name.
