Is "Degree of Sucess" scoring, or "Quality of Solution" scoring even feasible in EteRNA puzzles?

In reference to new “Idea” topic “Adjustments to Scoring System Ahead of Going Mainstream?” … I have a couple questions:

  1. Is “Degree of Sucess” scoring, or “Quality of Solution” scoring even feasible in EteRNA puzzles?

  2. Is there a history of conversation among the developers regarding this kind of scoring (or other different scoring systems) that might be shared with the player community?

  1. At this point, I don’t think it’s feasible. The only metric that’s truly useful is score based on synthesis results, but only a small subset of designs will actually get that score.

  2. We talked about using # of GU pairs or free energy as a “puzzle score” to get competition going in challenge puzzles. However, there is no one definite scoring metric we thought would be useful for sysnthesis candidate selection. We did have a hypothesis - “The more GU pairs, the better”. But it really seems like this was a wrong one, based on recent synthesis results : /
