I played & solved the new puzzle “Nearly” by Hearsall Eterna .
After I solved it the mission accomplished box showed adding +100 points to Anonymous.
I copied my sequence to the clipboard.
I assumed I was not (still) logged in. So, I then explicitly logged in (as my userID = LROPPY)
I navigated back to the puzzle, where the green check mark showed that the puzzle had been cleared (and playing the puzzle showed my successful sequence without me pasting it in).
So - did I get the points for clearing this puzzle or not.
IF NOT, that is a bug
IF Yes, then the Mission accomplished pop-up box is incorrectly portraying the points going to Anonymous
OR a variation – perhaps – the mission accomplished box was correct, the points were added to anonymous and then the bug is that eterna recognized that LROPPY had solved that puzzle, but I never got the points.
It’s possible that things were in a momentarily inconsistent state due to a server restart (I’ve been recently doing some minor server updates) - will need to look into that to see if that could explain it
I just had a similar instance today. I was playing Eterna and cleared it. Saw bubbles sequence and then screen froze and Mission Accomplished box never appeared. When opening the puzzle’s landing pagehttps://eternagame.org/web/puzzle/13549877/ in a new tab, the system shows that I cleared the puzzle (green check) and I have no idea if I got the points or not.
Something irrecoverable is happening at the time we try to launch the Mission Accomplished box.
Another instance: I was playing the very large puzzle Squiggly Eterna . I made what was the final move. The screen froze (20 minutes later, it was still frozen). No bubbles and no Mission accomplished box. After 20 minutes, I hit refresh in that Chrome browser tab and the puzzle re-appeared — solved. And now the puzzle landing page shows that I cleared the puzzle.
Happens to me in Chrome. Usually when there is a lot of activity on the site like near a lab end. I kill the session and coming back always have my points , cleared, etc. May not be worth chasing in my opinion.
Weve definitely been running into performance issues with our servers the past couple days as we’ve had researchers submitting lab solutions in bulk. @brainbow was looking into this yesterday and we think we may have identified a bottleneck and implemented a fix
