Is our research on the ribosome good for fighting climate change?
Yes, it is! Biology uses sustainable resources in contrast to petrochemistry. If we can harness biology to serve modern world needs such as demand for energy/ fuel, medicines and materials instead of using petrochemistry we fight climate change. The ribosome is central to biology. Every cell has ribosomes. These make almost all of the cell’s proteins; and also mRNA-based vaccines which you aim to improve in other Eterna challenges. Learning about the ribosome, helps us learn about biology and will enable us to evolve the ribosome for new functions such as making tailor-made materials and medicines.
